Introducing A-C Reads 2025:
Almost Super
Join our school community as we connect with each other for a shared reading experience. Our goal is that all students, no matter the grade, will be listening to and reading the same book. Reading professionals recommend that younger students listen to books beyond their reading level and even our older students can benefit from chapter books being read aloud to them. We have selected a title that can be enjoyed by younger students but will also captivate and encourage conversation with older students.
Every family will receive a copy of the same book- Almost Super by author Marion Jensen. Each leap year, on February 29th at 4:23 p.m., every member of the Bailey family over the age of twelve gets a superpower. No one knows why, and no one questions it. All the Baileys know is that it's their duty to protect the world from those evil, super villainous Johnsons. Benny wants to be speedy, and Rafter hopes he gets super strength. What will happen when their superpowers arrive? Will they defeat the Johnsons? Join us as we follow along with Rafter and Benny as they receive their superpowers.
Along with the book, your family is receiving a reading calendar highlighting the chapters to be read each night and several activities your family can choose to do throughout the month. The chapters are short and can easily be read each day.
Here at school, students will have the opportunity to answer daily, age-appropriate trivia questions about the reading, as well as participate in a variety of activities in their classrooms! Once again your family can celebrate the end of A-C Reads with a Family Movie Night on January 24th at 7pm in the High School Auditorium. We will be showing The Incredibles.
Our goal is for everyone to be talking about Almost Super! However, this activity is optional so if your family should choose not to participate feel free to return the book to your child’s teacher or gift it to someone else.
